What is a scam? 

A scam is when someone tricks you into giving personal or money details so they can steal from you.

  • Email 
  • Post 

If you are not sure a message is from us: 

  • Call 1800 603 300 to check. 

 

Do NOT click unknown links in texts or emails. They can steal your information. 

 

Common scam trick: 

  • A text saying: “I’m your family member. I have a new number. Send me money.” 

    What to do: 

  • Call the number to check. 
  • Or ask your family member in person. 
    Do not assume it’s real. 
     

If you have been scammed: 

  • Tell your bank or credit card company straight away. 
  • You can get free help from IDCARE 
  • Phone: 1800 595 160 
  • Website: www.idcare.org 
  • You can report the scam to Scamwatch. 
  • Contact us for help or referrals to financial counsellors. 

 

The Australian Government has developed the Scam Watch website, which has many tips and information about staying scam aware.
