PAYING the rent and putting food on the table just became a little easier for some Orange residents who will now be able to supplement their budget with FoodCare Orange vouchers. The $10 vouchers are being distributed via various charities and agencies who will pass them on to their clients in need so they can purchase FoodCare supermarket items at a fraction of the retail cost.

IT may seem counter-intuitive, but those tasked with reducing the causes and incidences of domestic violence, welcome an increase in the number of cases reported to police. “It means that those affected have faith in the system,” said Housing Plus Domestic Violence Services manager Penny Dordoy.

A trial program in the Central West has found our region is home to some of the highest domestic violence rates in the State. But despite the overwhelming number of families affected – there is no emergency women’s refuge based in Orange. Police attend a domestic violence related matter every two minutes. At least one woman will call for help before the end of this report.
